“In 2001, we recognized the need for an organization committed to innovative research in the areas of complementary, alternative and integrative health care. We wanted to establish an independent, non-affiliated Institute that would have the creativity and flexibility to explore the safety, effectiveness and integration of healing-oriented practices and their role in medicine and health care.
Our professional backgrounds in electrical engineering and technology, along with our interests in nutrition and wellness, provided the impetus to found the Samueli Institute, whose mission is to transform health care through the science of healing. Over the past decade, the Institute has grown into a thriving organization that has produced innovative research; new knowledge in the fields of complementary, alternative and integrative health care; and transformational policy initiatives.
The Institute is working to translate its research into health care practices that will improve the lives of people all over the world.
